Cristo Rey Des Moines
Who?:
Cristo Rey is a college preparatory high school in the Catholic tradition exclusively for economically disadvantaged students of all faiths whose needs are not being met in a traditional public school. A Cristo Rey school utilizes a unique work study model that allows the students to earn the majority of their tuition by working in entry-level corporate jobs. Exposure to these white-collar careers, mentoring, support and work experience from the corporate world have proven invaluable to the students as they make their way through college and into the workforce. For the 2009-2010 school year, 96% of students graduated - with every graduate accepted to at least one college.
Why?:
Christo Rey needed a website to target two main types of users that would use the site: the community and business from which they are trying to gain support and the students they are trying to service. To serve as this dual purpose site they needed simple navigation and a simple, clearly branded site to make it usable to everyone. They also needed a way to attractively display and promote sponsors for the school. Finally, they wanted to integrate blog posts into their sites as a way to update both groups of users.
Solution:
We created a site that used time and user tested usability standards to make the navigation and information lay-out user friendly. They picked a design that was simple, yet had clear branding for their school. We were also able to easily and attractively display their sponsors down the side of the site. For the blogs, we found that displaying them in a attractive format on the home page was the best solution for site flow and design.
Wow!:
Throughout the whole project we really enjoyed communicating back and forth with the client, so that the site came to be exactly what they were wanting. We kept them informed at each step and they really enjoyed getting to steer the outcome of their site.
