"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing."
- Walt Disney

Elliott Neff has done a lot.  He studied chess, became ranked as a National Master, and successfully spun that knowledge into a chess teaching business called Chess4Life.  Now he leads a team that teaches over three thousand students chess and character development in the Seattle, Washington area.  With that many students, solid curriculum is vital, so Elliott began crafting a series of DVDs and workbooks that began with chess fundamentals and continued to a high level.

The DVDs were great, but Elliott wanted to make them available to a wider audience in a more interactive format.

You need a subject matter expert to identify a true market need, like Elliott did.  To fulfill that need successfully requires an experienced technology partner.

With large projects, the typical questions are the easy ones to answer.  What will the site do?  Where will you click?  What will it look like?  No problem.  The more important questions are the ones you have to learn to ask.  Will the site still work when there are thousands of users?  Is our user information protected from hackers...and competitors?  What can we patent and will that provide a competitive advantage?

For Elliott, we worked with him to launch Chess4Life E-School.  E-School provides access to all of the video curriculum and lets students play through the chess puzzles as they watch the videos.  Plus, there are bonus features like submitting recent games played and having Chess4Life coaches provide feedback.  (Read the brief case study to hear about a family in Slovakia using it.)
