Posted by Joshua Stewardson on April 10, 2012

With our first large-scale responsive Omega-based website close to launching, and the second project about to start, it was time to refine the graphic design process and make it Omega-friendly.  Some important numbers to get started:

So we're sending out an email 30 days after a person checks out on the site and just asking them, "Hey, do you want to come back? Here is a coupon." This is for a dermatology clinic. And so, maybe they want to reorder a product, like a month later, they might have used it up. That's kind of the use case here.

Some Magic Required: Getting DraggableViews to Work

How can you make the first first and the last last?  Often clients need to order their Staff or Board Member or ... pages so that it appears in a specific order.  It isn't usually a point of pride, rather it just makes sense for the board President to be listed first so people can tell who is in charge.

Ask Covenant: Why did a website during the "bubble" cost less than one now?

I am putting the final touches on a spec for a new website that we're going to get started on shortly (hooray!).  As I read through emails from the early stages of conversation with the client I saw a great question posed as to how on earth websites can cost more to build now than they did during the dot-com bubble.

Setting up Crafty books to fix "unable to open book file"

Posted by Joshua Stewardson on August 8, 2011

After installing Crafty on Debian in the previous post I happily got playing, but had ignored two errors that came back to haunt me.

The first was the error message:

libnuma: Warning: /sys not mounted or no numa system. Assuming one node: No such file or directory

Hot on the heels of this message comes:

Installing the Crafty chess engine on Debian Lenny

Warning: Very technical matters here - we're combining hardcore Linux nerd-dom with guru chess programs.  Geek overload!

One of our clients is a National Chess Master.  He's pretty good at chess.  The kids he and his staff coach are half decent.  They used to beat me, but they don't anymore.  That's because I won't play them anymore.  I'm a bit competitive so it isn't good for my psyche.

McKinney Church Websites and Google's Mistake

Posted by Joshua Stewardson on July 1, 2011

How many people are looking for a church in McKinney? 10,000. Every. Single. Month. A few weeks ago I checked out how Olathe church websites fared on Google. Today I'm turning my eye to the websites of McKinney churches - and it is a much brighter picture.
