One of my favorite pastimes is being outside and enjoying nature and the sky. So, where can I go in McKinney to find some green patches and parks?

Hike and Bike

McKinney, Texas has 43 parks and recreation facilities. There is a good network of Hike and Bike Trails in South West McKinney, and substantial plans for extending these trails throughout the remainder of the city. Parks

When the weather is more mild in the Spring and Fall, I enjoy the outdoors greatly.  While I was looking for some local parks I came across and nice summary page on the McKinney City website. Here I found a really good listing of local parks, complete with title, address, description, and a photo.

One of the town’s favorite parks is probably the Towne Lake Recreation Area. There is a 22 acre lake here surrounded by paths, ball courts, fishing dock, paddle boats, and picnic facilities. I have visited this park and the walk around the lake is quite pleasant. As this is one of the most easily accessible and larger parks in McKinney, Texas, it is definitely more crowded on the weekends.

One park that I am definitely interested in visiting is Erwin Park. At this park in McKinney, there are over eight miles of mountain bike trail as a map shows online here. At Erwin Park, there is picking and camping. I would like to visit this park because it probably has more of the feel of a state park than just a playground.

Splash Pads

There are seven parks in McKinney, Texas that have splash pads. These are a great idea as they don’t require less volume water treatment and offer a safe water play place. Further information regarding construction and proposed recreational sites in McKinney can be found at the City of McKinney Website.  I was happy to see that there are several new parks in McKinney, Texas that will be finished or expanded this year.
