McKinney Weather – Cold and Hot

So here is the search engine experiment. I searched for “Weather McKinney Texas” because I wanted to see which websites were the most handy for atmospheric information.

Here I go through the top 4 hits and review the weather information that is displayed at the time I am writing this blog entry. Also I'll talk about what’s cold and hot (ie: bad and good) about each website that I find. Interestingly websites such as WeatherBug and NOAA were not at the top of the list.

    1) Weather Underground’s website says that in McKinney, Texas is 99.6° F and partly cloudy. I also noticed that this website had a nice elevation feature which said McKinney was 584 FT above sea level. Here is my favorite piece of weather information about McKinney, Texas that Weather Underground’s website has displayed: wind speed is 0.0 mph.

    • Cold – This website has a plain design. Not snazzy at all. And their logo could do with a bit of updating to overcome the slight case of “dated clip art disease”.
    • Hot – Excellent information, very strong organization. I liked how this website had a lot of interesting facts such as the phases of the current moon (Waning Gibbous) and the sunrise and sunset times (6:31AM and 8:33PM.)

    2)     The Weather Channel’s website says that we are at 100°F here in McKinney, Texas.

    • Cold – There were lots of advertisements for news, videos, and phone applications on this website. These things are all cool but not very helpful when I want to find weather information about McKinney, Texas via my home computer.
    • Hot – This website had nice current conditions icons for McKinney Texas. One feature that I liked is the averages and records bar graph they displayed and the on this date blurb. Apparently today, the coldest temperature ever recorded was measured in Antarctica in 1983. I don’t know if I would trade my 100°F weather for -129°F.

    3)     Weather For You’s website said that in McKinney we are cooking at 98 ° F.

    • Cold – This website had an older design that is beginning to show its age from all angles.
    • Hot – I liked how this website displayed two maps for Texas. One map displayed McKinney’s location and had current radar and warning information. The second map on this website showed current temperatures for the state of Texas.

    4)     AccuWeather.com com is says that Mckinney is coming in at 98 ° F today in north Dallas.

    • Cold – this website had the bear minimum when it comes to information and statistics about weather in McKinney, Texas.
    • Hot – I think that this website utilized the color of their main weather information block to great advantage. I really liked how the forecast for night was a dark blue, not only a moon icon. This website also had a lot of health information such as migraine and allergies forecast.
